Wonderful Fundraiser Dinner Banquet in Saratoga, California

Wonderful Fundraiser Dinner Banquet in Saratoga, California

On the evening of February 10th, 2024, our parish organized a fundraising dinner to the benefit of the upcoming landscaping project. We were blessed to have two bishops present for this important event, our Diocesan Bishop Maxim and Bishop Longin from the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of  New Gračanica and Midwestern America.

The evening commenced with a beautiful Vesper Service served by Rev. Father Marko Bojović and Protodeacon Dragan Stojanović, both from Jackson, CA, with the prayerful attendance of His Graces and a church filled with many faithful souls. The responses were sung by Bp. Maxim, V. Rev. Djurica Gordić, Dr. Lazar Supic, and Stefan Radović. After the service, V. Rev. Father Vidoslav Vujasin, the host priest, greeted all in attendance and invited them to the hall to enjoy a welcome cocktail.

The guests enjoyed a drink and appetizer in a beautifully and elegantly decorated hall. While socializing and greeting each other joyfully, the guests could look at the auction items to benefit the fundraiser. Following the prayer and a delicious dinner accompanied by beautiful Harp and Cello music, the program continued with Father Vidoslav, who welcomed all and introduced the honored guests, His Grace Bishop Maxim, His Grace Bishop Longin, the attending priests and deacon, and the Consul General of Serbia Mr. Damjan Jović who came from Chicago to support this important event for our parish.

Afterward, our board member Robert Adzich, who was also the emcee for the evening, presented the landscaping project, including the estimated costs of around $2,2 million, to a very attentive audience.

A beautiful music intermezzo with Serbian compositions was provided by Larissa Smirnova on the Harp and Protinica Biljana Bojović on the Cello.

The primary guest speaker, His Grace Bishop Longin, gave a very inspirational and personal speech about the importance of the project and how giving to a good cause like this is a blessing for every Christian and everybody should give what they can and even a little more. He reminded all that there is a Serbian saying that goes: when a man
is giving, and it hurts a little, then he knows that he gave enough. If we have a lot and give a little that is not enough. After the moving speech of Bishop Longin, the Consul General,  Mr. Damjan Jović, addressed the guests, expressing his support for this cause.

We thank the gracious artists and the sponsors of the very successful evening. We especially thank Diana Moffett for organizing and sponsoring the event in many ways. Diana, her husband Chris, and her chef Billy Schriver from the Saratoga Country Club volunteered and created a wonderful dinner menu everybody is raving about. In addition, Diana donated a gift basket and a golf and lunch voucher for the renowned Saratoga Country Club.

Many items were offered at the auction led by Nenad Milanovic and Dawnell Lewis, but the main two objects were two paintings, one donated by the artist Alexander Dzigurski II and one by His Grace Bishop Maxim. Alexander Dzigurski’s painting was auctioned for $26,000 and Bishop Maxim’s artwork went for $3,000 to benefit the fundraiser.

The beautifully decorated tables and the flower arrangements were all designed and donated by Diana Moffett. The Wine and Champagne were graciously donated by Dragiša Milivojević. Dragoslav Grbović and Susan Pavic chaired the event on behalf of the church board. Susan, as the Kolo President, together with Marlene Swanson, organized the delicious dessert buffet provided by the Kolo Ladies and many other women.

We wholeheartedly thank everyone who helped in any way to make this event so special and successful.

The very beautiful evening ended with the closing prayer by Bishop Maxim
