Women’s Lenten Retreat:
“Practical Advice for Everyday Spiritual Life”

On Saturday, March 28, 2026, the Sisters of the Western American Auxiliary hosted a beautiful and spiritually uplifting Women’s Retreat featuring a presentation by Dr. Christopher Lockwood. His talk, titled “Practical Advice for Everyday Spiritual Life,” offered a profound reflection on how faith and humility shape our daily Christian journey.

Drawing from the teachings of modern saints, ancient monastic elders, and personal encounters, Dr. Lockwood emphasized that the spiritual life begins and ends with faith understood as total trust in God. He reflected on how humility—complete surrender to God’s will—attracts divine grace and allows every person, whether living in a monastery or in the world, to grow in holiness. Through vivid stories and pastoral wisdom, he reminded the participants that one can become a saint anywhere, even in the midst of daily challenges, by embracing meekness, patience, thanksgiving, and trust in God.

Following the presentation, attendees enjoyed a warm time of hospitality and food, sharing fellowship and conversation. The afternoon concluded with a presentation of Dr. Lockwood’s book, Type and Symbols, giving participants the opportunity to learn more about his work and engage further with the themes discussed.

The Sisters of the Western American Auxiliary extend their gratitude to all who attended and helped make this retreat a spiritually enriching and memorable gathering.

THE MINISTRY OF THE CIRCLE OF SERBIAN SISTERS of the WESTERN AMERICAN DIOCESE

The Diocesan Kolo Sestara was established on December 6, 1986. Through the hard work and efforts of the sisters, the organization has flourished to the present day.

Some of the principle goals of the Diocesan Kolo Srpskih Sestara include the following:

• To volunteer its efforts for the glory of God, for the Holy Serbian Orthodox Church, for the benefit of the people, and ultimately for the salvation of its members.

• To spread the faith and create awareness amongst the church parishes and members of the SOC in the Western American Diocese.

• In keeping with the example set by the Myrrhbearing Women, to spread the word of Orthodoxy and to care for the sick, the suffering, and the poor.
