Palm Sunday at St. Sava, San Gabriel, California

Canonical Visit  for Palm Sunday of  His Grace Bishop Maxim to the faithful of Saint Sava Serbian Orthodox Church, San Gabriel, California.

On Palm Sunday, the joyous Feast of the Triumphal Entry of our Lord Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, the faithful of Saint Sava Serbian Orthodox Church were prayerfully gathered for a most blessed occasion—Palm Sunday Celebration with Eucharistic Synaxis presided by His Grace Bishop Maxim.

This sacred celebration, taking place at the threshold of Holy Week, brought together more than 200 faithful, uniting clergy, parishioners, and youth in a profound expression of liturgical and spiritual unity.

The arrival of His Grace Bishop Maxim was met with reverence and joy. Welcomed by the parish clergy and faithful, the bishop’s presence reaffirmed the living bond between the diocesan shepherd and his flock. His canonical visitation emphasized the unity of the Church, gathered around the bishop as the visible center of ecclesial life.

The Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was celebrated with solemn beauty and fullness. Concelebrating with His Grace were Priestmonk Basil Gavrilovic and the local parish priest, Very Rev. Protopresbyter Stavrofor Predrag Bojovic, together with assisting readers and servers.

The service reflected the richness of Orthodox liturgical tradition, with festal hymns resounding throughout the temple and the faithful prayerfully participating in great numbers. The parish choir offered a particularly beautiful and uplifting response, enhancing the solemnity and joy of the feast through their reverent and harmonious chanting.

The blessing and distribution of palm and willow branches, followed by a joyful procession, brought to life the Gospel account of Christ’s entrance into Jerusalem. Children and youth participated with special enthusiasm, bearing branches and ringing bells, embodying the spirit of the feast.

With more than 200 attendees, the temple was filled with prayerful devotion. The faithful gathered as one body in Christ, offering their worship and preparing their hearts for the solemn days of Holy Week. The strong participation of families and youth highlighted the vitality of the parish community.

In his homily, Bishop Maxim reflected on the deep spiritual meaning of Palm Sunday, calling the faithful to recognize Christ not only as the King who enters Jerusalem, but as the Savior who willingly goes toward His Passion. He invited all present to walk with Christ through the coming days, with faith, humility, and repentance.

Following the Divine Liturgy, a festal luncheon, donated by Mr. Dusan Langura, was lovingly prepared and offered by the Kolo Srpskih Sestara (KSS), Marica Blagojevic,  Gordana Matic, and Natasa Karabuva.

This shared meal provided an opportunity for fellowship, joy, and the strengthening of community bonds, allowing the faithful to continue the celebration in a spirit of love and unity.

The canonical visit of Bishop Maxim and the celebration of the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy on Palm Sunday at Saint Sava Church in San Gabriel was a truly grace-filled event. Through prayer, sacred worship, and communal fellowship, the parish was spiritually renewed and strengthened as it entered into the saving mysteries of Holy Week.

This blessed gathering stands as a testimony to the living faith of the Orthodox Church and the enduring unity of its people in Christ.
