Sunday before Theophany at St. Steven’s Cathedral

On the Sunday preceding the Feast of Theophany, the faithful gathered in great numbers at St. Steven’s Cathedral for the celebration of the Divine Liturgy. His Grace, Bishop Maxim presided, concelebrated by Fathers Professor John Behr, Nicholas Ceko, and Basil Gavrilovic.

Following the reading of the Holy Gospel, Father John Behr offered an inspiring sermon on the meaning and significance of Theophany, calling the faithful to reflect on the revelation of the Holy Trinity and the sanctification of all creation through Christ’s baptism in the Jordan.

The cathedral was filled with worshippers, many of whom approached the Holy Chalice to receive the Body and Blood of Christ, bearing witness to the vibrant liturgical life of the community.

After the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, a festive procession took place, leading to the sanctification of water in front of the newly built fountain and baptistery. This joyful and prayerful moment marked an important milestone in the life of the cathedral and prepared the faithful spiritually for the upcoming feast.

Following the service and the blessing of the waters, a communal meal was prepared and shared, allowing all those present to continue their fellowship in a spirit of love, gratitude, and celebration.
