Great & Holy Pascha in Los Angeles with Bishop Maxim

CHRIST IS RISEN! Христос васкрсе!

On the Sunday of Pascha, the 24th of April 2022, the Orthodox faithful in Los Angeles gathered in great numbers to celebrate the feast of feasts, the Resurrection of Christ!

The Resurrection Matins began on Saturday evening at 11:30 pm at the Saint Steven’s Serbian Orthodox Cathedral with the singing of Come See the Light! His Grace Bishop Maxim took the light from the Paschal Candle on the Holy Altar table, and shared it with the clergy and then the altar services shared it, one by one, with the faithful throughout the church. The procession around the church followed with the Matins service. After concluding the Matins service inside the church, the Paschal Liturgy began with the singing of the joyous paschal troparion, Christ is Risen from the dead, trampling death by death, and upon those in the tombs bestowing life. Following the Paschal Service the faithful gathered outside and in the hall to celebrate with a delicious buffet and fellowship.

The Agape Vespers began later that day at noon with the reading of the Gospel in five languages by His Grace Bishop Maxim, Father Nikola Ceko, and Fr. Norman Kosanovich. At the end of the service, as is tradition, the Paschal Encyclical of Patriarch Porfirije and all the Bishop’s of the Holy Synod, was read by the Cathedral Dean, V. Rev. Nikola Ceko.

At the conclusion of the Agape service, a glorious and festive banquet and picnic followed with fellowship, live music and dancing throughout the afternoon.
