“Blessed are the Pure in Heart”: Embrace the Spirit of Saint Sava Camp

The 2024 Saint Sava Camp Season in Jackson, California

With the blessings of Bishop Maxim, hundreds of children and teenagers from Orthodox communities gather each summer for the St. Sava camp program. Their Orthodox Christian faith comes alive as they develop life-long friendships and memories. Before each week begins, the lay directors and counselors prepare for an inspiring and learning-filled program, welcoming campers with excitement and anticipation. Many staff members have been previous campers or counselors and share a common goal: to make the Camp experience the best for Orthodox children. Campers are immersed in a faith-forming environment where songs, games, and activities become a theological playground. They experience a life inter-twined with God’s ongoing activity, rather than merely studying about Him.

Bishop Maxim visited the Camp weekly, offering his fatherly love and ensuring everything was in excellent order. Some campers traveled long distances, and priests accompanied by their wives provided significant support. Th e Diocese and Foundation members served with dedication, while Protinica Radmila Bojović offered invaluable administrative help alongside managers Alexandra Kordic, Danica Pavlov, and spiritual leader Fr. Marko Bojovic, together with Camp directors, Delaney Brower, Aleksandra Kordic, and Steve Spilker. Lazar Larry Angier captured beautiful group photos each week. Countless dedicated persons contributed to this Camp season. May Saint Sava and Saint Sebastian remember them in their prayers, and may God re-member them in His Kingdom.
