Discussion between Jordan Peterson and Ben Shapiro on the Rubin Report. Streamed live 30 November 2018.
Admittedly, Mr. Peterson doesn’t go very far into his opinions on Orthodox Christianity in this clip; he does, however, seem to align his own perspective with that of the Orthodox, as opposed to the Protestants and Catholics.
Ben Shapiro claims that Jordan Peterson’s understanding is fundamentally un-Christian, given that Christianity eliminates the burden of responsibility by attributing redemption to one’s acceptance of Christ’s sacrifice. Peterson accepts the critique, but only insofar as that idea exists within Protestant and Catholic Christianity.

Many Orthodox Christians participate in the life of the Church, praying, fasting, confessing, communing, singing, etc. But how many of these people are genuinely seeking their salvation? The purpose of life on earth is the salvation of one’s soul. Although most people do not think about their salvation, it comes as a surprise when we encounter this in active participants in church life. The question arises: why does this occur?

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

Thanksgiving is a time to feel grateful. But that attitude of gratitude can go away as soon as we’re done with the turkey. How do we keep it going?

Saint Paul tells us to “give thanks in all circumstances.” Because real gratitude is more than a feeling. As we see in the Parable of the Rich Fool, it starts with remembering one crucial thing.

‘Boys will be boys!’ This enduring adage has been understood to imply that a certain amount of mischief from boys is perfectly acceptable and, to an extent, to be ignored. It is crucial, however, for parents to validate the emotions of their sons while maintaining necessary boundaries for healthy growth. “Raising Our Sons: Understanding the Inner Life of Boys” is a webinar presentation from George Papageorge (MA, MFT) that encourages parents to carefully listen to the hearts of their sons to establish better connections. By doing so, it will help structure the emotional maturation boys require—but often miss out on—during critical phases of their development.

If we accept that God is faith and science is knowledge, is there a point where these two converge? Many have spoken of a dialogue between science and faith, but what could Orthodox Christianity bring to this discussion? And most importantly, what would the basis of such a dialogue be?

This documentary was produced within the framework of the research program “Science & Orthodoxy around the World (SOW)” of the Institute of Historical Research of the National Hellenic Research Foundation. The major goal of the program was to chart a previously unknown field: the different views and positions on the relation between Science and faith across the entire Orthodox Christian world.

VIDEO: Build An Effective Christian Ministry Today

If there’s one question I’ve heard more than any other, it’s this: “how do we keep young people in the Church?”
The big picture data backs up what so many of us can see with our own eyes: young people are falling away from the Church at an alarming rate.
This can be scary. It can make you feel powerless. And it can be deeply frustrating because you love the Church and you know things can be better.
And that’s why we put this course together: because we want you to lead effective Christian ministry, too.
Whether you’re a priest or a parent, a paid youth worker or a young adult volunteer, this course will add significant value to your ministry work.
If you’d like to see the people in your care come to know Jesus as Lord and experience a taste of His Kingdom, then I’m inviting you to join us. Order Effective Christian Ministry and start leading effective Christian ministry today.

VIDEO:  St. Isaac the Syrian and the Fullness of the Desert

Video about St. Isaac of Syria, a desert monastic who became the Bishop of Nineveh. The great luminary of the life of stillness, he became a monk at a young age. He was consecrated Bishop of Nineveh but after five months received permission to return to solitude. He spent many years far south of Nineveh in the mountainous regions of Beit Huzaye, and lastly at the Monastery of Rabban Shabur. He wrote his renowned and God-inspired Ascetical Homilies toward the end of his long life of monastic struggle, about the end of the seventh century. The fame of his Homilies grew quickly, and about one hundred years after their composition they were translated from Syriac into Greek by two monks of the Monastery of Mar Sabbas in Palestine, from which they spread throughout the monasteries of the Roman Empire and became a guide to the hesychasts of all generations thereafter.

An Apostle is one who is sent out by our Lord Jesus Christ to spread the gospel that he is the Messiah, that he is risen, and that we are being saved as a result. The word apostle comes from the Greek αποστολος, literally meaning “one who is sent out.” Originally a military term referring to a sortie sent out against the enemy, apostle has in the Christian context come to refer to a missionary spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.

VIDEO:  “YOUR SINS ARE FORGIVEN” – Fr. Norman Kosanovich – July Catechesis

Our Lord gave us the keys of restorative healing and synergy with God with words like these: “Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you.”
Saint John Chrysostom helped to prove it in his treatise that demonstrated if a man doesn’t suffer injury by his own hand then nothing or no one can harm him. In a time where so many derive self-worth from how they’re perceived by strangers on social media, while surveys show church attendance decreasing – well before the pandemic – Saint John’s words have never been more relevant and needed in order to bring a portion of God’s people back to Him in soul-saving humility.

VIDEO:  Let My Prayer Rise: The Sacred Censer

A censer is a small metal or stone dish used for burning incense. A common design is a metal container, about the size and shape of a small coffee-pot, suspended on chains and often with the addition of small bells. The bowl contains hot coals, and the incense is placed on top of these. To the Orthodox, burning incense represents the prayers of the faithful rising towards Heaven as a sweet-smelling spiritual fragrance. One commonly sung psalm during the censing is “Let my prayer rise like incense before You, the lifting up of my hands like the evening sacrifice.” Some Orthodox Christians use a standing censer on their home altars.

The miraculous healing at the pool that takes place in the Gospel lesson for the fourth Sunday of Pascha is an example of something that’s been made abundantly CLEAR at this point in the life of God’s people Israel, though it’s not been abundantly ACCEPTED: the Messiah had come as THE FULFILLMENT of the Mosaic Law and the Prophetic teaching: Jesus Himself proclaimed it with those very words during His sermon on the mount.

VIDEO: The Bible explored: Can we trust the Bible? by the Canadian Bible Society

No other book in the world is as widely available, as frequently read, or translated into as many languages as the Bible. Nevertheless, for many people, it remains a book that is misunderstood or even unknown. Many opinions about the Bible are not accurate: it is said to be no different than other historical books, difficult to read or understand, to teach harmful things, or to be so heavily altered by history that we can no longer trust it.
This 8.5-minute video addresses the questions most people ask: Can I trust the Bible? Is it accurate? Is it reliable? Is it still relevant?

This video is based on the booklet, Bible Explored: Honest Questions. Real Answers. This booklet is part of the Bible Explored Series. Visit https://biblesociety.ca/ebooks.html for more information.

VIDEO: The Pearl of this Spring is a Fruit of the Entire Humanity’s Pain
Bishop Maxim’s Easter Message 2020

Тhe pearl of this year’s spring – and of the Great Lent for us Christians, culminating in Holy Week – is the offspring of the pain that the entire humanity and the Church body altogether lives through amidst the sea of tribulations caused by the Coronavirus. Everything that is done out of pure love is preserved and saved, for eternity. Those who were crucified with Christ, will abound with glory; those who died with Him, will be filled with life. As somebody said, we’ve seen no evidence of Covid-19 discriminating on the basis of nationality. The virus doesn’t care about borders or religion. For this reason, we need a global response to Covid-19. As this spring invigorates us, so also Pascha rejuvenates all Christians. And as this year’s spring for most of the people will be unapproachable, so also the Easter, as a liturgical event, will be inaccessible for many. But, can we say that the world doesn’t experience the spring?… No! Can we say that Christians do not experience Pascha? Not at all! Our faith is that the Holy Spirit constitutes the Church also in the times of Coronavirus.
