Bishop Maxim Visits St. Petka Parish in San Marcos

On Sunday, April 14, 2019, on the fifth Sunday of Lent, the Sunday of St. Mary of Egypt, His Grace Bishop Maxim of Western America made an archpastoral visit to the St. Petka Serbian Orthodox Church in San Marcos, California located in North San Diego County.

His Grace was welcomed by the parish clergy, V. Rev. Protopresbyter Milovan Katanic, and Deacon David-John Williams, along with the faithful. Fr. Milovan and Deacon David served Matins while the bishop joined the chanters at the chanter’s stand. At the conclusion of Matins, His Grace officiated at the Holy Hierarchical Divine Liturgy. Also serving at the liturgy was Diocesan Secretary Deacon Vladan Radovanovic. Many faithful approached the Holy Chalice for Holy Communion which the bishop was very glad to see as he noted at the conclusion of the liturgy as he addressed the faithful, speaking of the life of St. Mary of Egypt whom the church commemorated that Sunday.

Following the Divine Liturgy, the bishop visited the church school children in the school classroom and spent a few moments speaking with them. Afterward, the bishop joined the faithful for the Sunday lunch which is prepared each Sunday for fellowship.

It was a beautiful day spent in prayer and fellowship with one another and our diocesan bishop. Eis polla eti despota!
