Camp St. Sava 2015 - Registration Update

Greetings Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Christ is Risen!  Hristos Voskrese!

camp 1 2013 949 910x390I am writing to let everyone know the current numbers for each week of camp.  It is exciting to tell you that we received 25 registrations during the last week.  WEEK THREE, JULY 26TH TO AUGUST 1, 2015, is now FULL.  We will begin to take names on the wait list.

Weeks One and Two are both at 55 campers, so we can still take about 60 more registrations, thirty more in each of those weeks.  We currently have 205 campers enrolled over the three weeks.

If you are thinking of sending your children to Camp St. Sava this summer, please enroll them now and send in the registration forms as soon as possible.  Remember:  to benefit from the early registration pricing, we must receive your full payment and all the forms by May 15, 2015.  That date is just three weeks away.  Enroll your children now, please.

On another topic, we are asking all families to consider contributing to our fund to pay for the renovation of the roof on the main hall and to replace the four, old HVAC units with new energy efficient ones.  We have raised about $30,000 to date.  Our goal was to have $37,500 by the end of April, or 50% of the projected total cost.

We are still $7,500 SHORT!  Please give what you can.  No donation is too small.  Those of us who have means, please step up to the plate and give more.

We will send out a final appeal by the end of this week and we have extended our deadline to May 15, 2015.  We must raise these funds, another $7,500, before we can begin the project.  Watch for our next appeal in your inbox or mailbox.

God bless all our donors and all our camp families, Fr. Steve

AKOLOUTHIA

of our Sovereign
Lady the Mother of God

Queen of the Angels
(Los Angeles)

Join us for the AKOLOUTHIA (liturgical service) of our Sovereign Lady the Mother of God Queen of the Angels (Los Angeles).
Composed on the Holy Mountain of Athos by Athanasios, hieromonk of Simonopetra, Hymnographer of the Holy Great Church of Christ, at the pious request of the Most Reverend Bishop of Western America Maxim 2013.
From the official name of Los Angeles first given in 1781.
This byzantine styled composition begins from the perspective of the Pacific Ocean, therefore closest to us are waves of the ocean sprinkled with white sailboats and dolphins. Just beyond the water, a landscape emerges, weaving downtown skyscrapers, mountains, highways and illuminated cathedrals. These recognizable cathedrals and churches include the Orthodox churches in Los Angeles. Colors abound in palms, vineyards and orange trees representing Los Angeles’ agricultural heritage. Centered in their midst, the Most Holy Theotokos, Protectress of the City rises to dominate the composition, just as the Theotokos, the Intercessor of Constantinople or Mount Athos. She is seen vertically on her Throne surrounded by Angels. The hierarchs and priests represented are in prayerful plea together with the faithful, while children of all backgrounds encircle joyfully, dancing with flowers in their hands.
