CLERGY-BROTHERHOOD
ANNUAL CONFERENCE SUMMARY

NEW! Schedule of Events for His Grace Bishop Athanasius in USA for May 29-June 26, 2007.

The annual conference of the clergy-brotherhood is underway (flyer). This year, the Western American Diocese is hosting the meeting at Saint Steven's Orthodox Cathedral in Los Angeles (Alhambra) on May 30th and 31st.
Nearly one hundred priests from America and Canada, along with the faithful and monastics are expected to attend for a time of worship, fellowship, discussion and workshops.

• PROGRAM - SCHEDULE

The main guest speaker, His Grace Bishop Athanasios (video+photo) will be visiting from Belgrade, Serbia. Bishop Athanasios is a well-known Orthodox Theologian throughout Europe and specializes in Church history and Patristic teachings. In addition to being a disciple of Saint Justin (Popovich) of Chelije, he holds a doctorate degree in Orthodox Theology from the University of Athens, is an author of numerous books including “Christ: the Alpha and Omega” (the newly translated English version will be promoted at the event), and has taught in Paris (France) and Belgrade (Serbia).

Father Stamatis Skliris, a famous Priest, Iconographer, and Medical Doctor will also be joining us from Athens, Greece. During these two days His Grace Bishop Athanasios will conduct two workshops and deliver a liturgical sermon and Father Stamatis will hold up to two workshops. Fr Stamatis, a parish priest in Athens, who is renowned as an iconographer and a writer and lecturer on Byzantine iconography, has adorned many books with striking icons and illustrations. He is the author of "Through a glass" ("U ogledalu i zagonetki").

A technologically advanced translation service will be provided that will instantaneously translate the speeches from Serbian and/ or Greek to English. This special device will minimize and reduce the translating process drastically and will provide an extremely efficient way to communicate and dialogue. A video link will also be provided via internet for those unable to attend the event. Information on this event will be posted on the Diocesan website.

The important purpose of this meeting is to rejuvenate Orthodox faith, restore and increase spiritual unity, provide pastoral encouragement with practical advice, give helpful guidance for liturgical improvement, and the confront challenges facing Orthodoxy in the contemporary world. The meeting will also provide an important setting to remind and educate the faithful on the Orthodox Tradition and the witness of it, which, being universal and catholic in essence, exceeds all borders. Hopefully, this occasion will be a stepping stone to the task of creating a greater sense of Orthodox unity in North America.

The official host of the conference is the Western American Diocese and His Grace Bishop Maxim. Participants such as His Grace Bishop Athanasios, His Eminence Metropolitan Christopher (Diocese of the Midwest ), His Grace Bishop Metrophan, His Grace Bishop Longin. These participants will subsequently attend an alternate conference in Chicago, Illinois. His Grace Bishop Athanasios is scheduled to be in attendance for that event, and will initially arrive in Los Angeles, California from Belgrade, Serbia on May 26 th .
